Microbiologist I

Penn Life Sciences is seeking a Microbiologist I to join our team in Langhorne, PA.

The Microbiologist I will perform routine microbiological testing and environmental monitoring in support of sterile and oral solid dosage manufacturing. This role ensures testing is performed in compliance with cGMP and data integrity principles to maintain product quality and contamination control. The ideal candidate will have foundational microbiology knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to apply aseptic techniques in both laboratory and cleanroom environments.


This position’s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Perform microbiological assays including sterility, endotoxin, bioburden, and microbial limits testing in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct environmental and personnel monitoring in aseptic manufacturing areas and controlled utilities to support contamination control programs.
  • Prepare media, perform growth promotion testing, and maintain laboratory readiness through organization and inventory management.
  • Execute gowning qualifications, cleanroom monitoring, and sampling activities to support manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous documentation of all testing activities in compliance with ALCOA and cGMP standards.
  • Support laboratory investigations, deviations, and continuous improvement initiatives under the direction of senior microbiologists and QA management.

We are looking for applicants with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related life-science discipline required.
  • 0–2 years of microbiological or quality control laboratory experience in a GMP, GLP, or academic environment.
  • Familiarity with aseptic technique, cleanroom procedures, and microbiological testing preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic microbiological principles and laboratory safety practices.
  • Ability to accurately document, analyze, and interpret test results.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and adherence to cGMP and data integrity standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours as required to support manufacturing schedules.
